Documentary – Neurodivergence ‘Colours of our minds’
Synopsis
This documentary will serve as a powerful and insightful exploration into the lived experiences of
neurodivergent individuals. Rather than focusing on limitations or medical definitions, our goal is to
shine a positive, authentic light on neurodiversity, showcasing the rich inner worlds, strengths, and
perspectives of people whose brains are wired differently.
Through personal stories, community engagement, and thought-provoking conversations, this film
will raise awareness, challenge outdated stigmas, and offer a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be neurodivergent in today’s society.
Narrative Structure & Core Themes
At the heart of the documentary Josh will be presenting and meeting a wide range of individuals to build relatable and emotionally charged stories that reflect the growing number of people who
suspect they are neurodivergent but face significant barriers to confirmation and support. This
personal narrative will unfold over the course of the film, serving as a through-line to connect the
broader topics explored.
We will capture the voices and experiences of
• Adults diagnosed later in life, who reflect on how their lives might have been different had
they received recognition and support earlier. Their stories will highlight both the relief and
grief that often accompany a late diagnosis.
• People currently on long waiting lists - not just for treatment, but for the diagnosis itself.
These interviews will explore the toll that this uncertainty and delay can take on mental
health, relationships, and daily life.
• A round table discussion with five – ten neurodivergent individuals, providing an
intimate look at how their minds operate uniquely. From sensory sensitivity and emotional
regulation to hyper focus and creativity, this segment will allow viewers to better appreciate
the diversity and depth of neurodivergent thinking.
Capturing Community and Connection
A central moment in the documentary will be a large social event created specifically for
neurodivergent individuals. This inclusive gathering will be a space for community, support, and
self-expression, offering attendees the chance to meet others who share similar experiences.

We will film authentic, unscripted interactions and conversations throughout the event, capturing the sense of belonging that many neurodivergent people struggle to find in everyday environments.
Families and Future Generations
To round out the picture, we will also follow one or two families raising neurodivergent children,
giving a voice to both the young people and their caregivers. These stories will explore the journey
toward understanding and acceptance, the challenges families face navigating educational and
medical systems, and the importance of early support.
Purpose and Impact
This documentary aims not only to educate but to foster empathy, validation, and visibility. It will
serve as a resource for those who are neurodivergent, those who suspect they might be, and anyone
who wants to better understand the richness and complexity of the neurodiverse experience.
In a world that often expects conformity, this film will celebrate difference whilst reminding us all
that there is no single “right” way for a mind to work.
